Robin Tucek and John Lamond, the authors of “The Malt Whisky File: The Essential Guide for the Malt Whisky Connoisseur” founded Blackadder International in 1995. The company has been named after the fugitive 17th Century preacher John Blackadder, who evaded the authorities for seven years. Blackadder International specializes in single cask bottlings and Robin Tucek personally selects each cask. Blackadder Raw Cask range was launched in 2000 and consists of whiskies bottled in its purest form, uncut and unfiltered. Auchentoshan 24 years old comes from ex-sherry hogshead no. 2916 filled on October 28, 1991 and bottled at 55% abv in April 2016 with an outrun of 182 bottles.
Nose: fruity and slightly herbal, plums, figs, bananas, orange liquor, licorice, raisins, milk chocolate, dash of dried herbs and little oak in the background.
Palate: still fruity, grapefruits, oranges, plums, honey, cappuccino, white pepper, touches of aniseed and lemon grass and nicely integrated oakiness.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of citrus, cocoa powder, pepper, licorice, hay and oak.
