In April 2013 Aceo Ltd, a cask whisky broker, acquired Murray McDavid.
The company did not release any new bottlings for over a year but finally returned with quite impressive family of whiskies, which includes six ranges: Mission Gold, Benchmark, Mystery Malt, Select Grain, The Vatting and Crafted Blend. Benrinnes 28 years old presented here was distilled in 1988, aged in ex-bourbon hogshead then transferred into first fill ex-Oloroso sherry cask no. 140001. Bottled at natural strength of 50.4% abv in the summer of 2017 as part of Mission Gold range with an outrun of 241 bottles.
Nose: rich, slightly mineral, dried apricots, figs and prunes, raisins, candied lemon peel, chocolate truffles, hints of leather and oak.
Palate: gingerbread, prunes, oranges, toffee treacle, raisins, honey, caramel, dark chocolate, hints of pepper and allspice and delicate oaky notes.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of bitter orange marmalade, coffee, caramel, dark chocolate and oak.
