Douglas Laing & Co., one of the most reputable independent bottling companies, used to be run by two Laing brothers, Stuart and Fred.
In 2013, after almost 40 years of working together, the brothers parted their ways and split the old company portfolio. Old & Rare, Douglas Laing prestigious series, is now part of newly formed Hunter Laing & Co. with Stuart at the helm. Miltonduff 34 years old comes from a single refill hogshead filled in November 1980, when the distillery was owned by the Canadian company Hiram Walker & Sons. Bottled at natural strength of 50,8% abv and without chill-filtration in June 2016 with an outrun of 196 bottles.
Nose: sweet and slightly waxy, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, buttered toast, apples, gooseberries, quince jelly, hay, hints of dried herbs and oak.
Palate: fruity with certain spiciness, apples, honeydew melon, peaches, vanilla, toffee, milk chocolate, white pepper, ginger, touch of tobacco and delicate oaky dryness.
Finish: long, with notes of bitter oranges, grapefruits, pepper, allspice, dried herbs and oak.
