In 2016 Brown-Forman Corporation purchased BenRiach Distillery Company and their three distilleries – BenRiach, GlenDronach and GlenGlassaugh.
In the past the Americans tried to acquire different Scottish assets, John Dewar & Sons (1998) and Glenmorangie plc (2004) but they were outbid by Bacardi and Moët Hennessy respectively. On March 1, 2017 Billy Walker bid final farewell to BenRiach and Rachel Barrie took over his post. She has been doing god job so far following the path and selecting casks for individual bottling. BenRiach 2006 presented here spent 11 years in ex-Marsala hogshead no. 4156 and was bottled at natural strength of 54.5% abv in October 2017. The cask yielded 253 bottles.
Nose: rich and sweet, peaches, orange marmalade, baked apples, buttered toast, toffee, caramel, candied fruits, hints of pepper and oak.
Palate: fresh and fruity, oranges, pink grapefruits, pears, apples, peaches, sugared nuts, toffee, hints of pepper and ginger and subtle oakiness.
Finish: pretty long, great balance between sweetness of ripe juicy fruits and peppery and gingery spiciness.
