Dewar’s is one of the most recognizable Scotch whisky brands and America’s best selling Scotch.
In recent years it’s global sales have been struggling a bit dropping to 2.8 million cases sold annually, no wonder that the owners decided to release several premium expression. Dewar’s the Monarch is a creation of Stephanie Mcleod, John Dewar & Sons master blender. It’s formula consists of close to 40 whiskies aged primarily in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The whisky is named after Sir Edwin Lancaster’s 1851 painting “The Monarch of the Glen” which was acquired by John Dewar & Sons in 1916 and became part of their advertising campaign.
Nose: smooth with subtle sherry notes, honey, caramel, apples, plums, coconut shavings, candied lemon peel, and faint hints of smoke.
Palate: smooth and sweet, honey, vanilla, butterscotch, oranges, apricots, dash of white pepper and delicate oaky notes.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, oak and citrus.
