Knappogue Castle is a brainchild of Mark Andrews III, founder of Castle Brands (formerly Great Spirits) and big admirer of Irish whiskey.
In the 1960s his father Mark Edwin Andrews bought and renovated the 15th Century Knappogue Castle, in County Clare. (Mark Edwin Andrews was a Navy officer, Assistant Secretary under president Truman, who enjoyed lucrative post-naval career in the oil business). He also kept buying barrels of whiskey, which he later bottled and distributed among locals, the family and friends. Knappogue Castle 16 years old Twin Wood Reserve is a triple-distilled whiskey aged in ex-bourbon barrels for at least 14 years and finished in ex-sherry casks. We believe the whiskey was sourced from Bushmills Distillery.
