Glen Garioch (est. 1797) is one of the oldest operating Scottish Distilleries It is currently owned by Morrison Bowmore Ltd, a subsidiary of Beam Suntory.
Glen Garioch was mothballed in October 1995 but resumed operations in August 1997, on its 200th Anniversary. The Renaissance Collection comprises whisky distilled in 1997 and after with the objective to follow the progress of the distillery style while maturation process progresses. The initial release, 15 years old called 1st Chapter, was launched in the summer of 2014, the second chapter followed in the fall of 2016. The whisky was aged in combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks and bottled at natural strength of 51.4% abv and without chill-filtration.
Nose: nicely balanced, toffee, honey, breakfast cereals, apples, pears, orange peel, allspice, hints of pepper and nutmeg and touch of oak.
Palate: fruity with spicy tang, oranges, cherries, apples, dried dates, honey, vanilla, pepper, touch of cinnamon and delicate oaky notes.
Finish: long and pretty oaky, with notes of honey, vanilla, dried fruit and pepper.
