Puni Distillery was founded by the Ebensperger family in 2010 and started distilling in February 2012. The distillery takes its name from the Puni River, which flows nearby, and it’s the first whisky producer in Italy.
The Ebenspergers developed own whisky formula, which includes malted barley, malted wheat and malted rye. The Sole (Sun) expression was introduced in 2017. The whisky spent the first two years in ex-bourbon barrels then was transferred into ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for additional two years. Puni is fairly small distillery, equipped with a single pair of stills can produce 80 000 liters of sprit per annum.
