After acquiring Jim Beam Global in the late 2011 Suntory became the third largest producer of distilled beverages worldwide behind Diageo and Pernod Ricard.
The newly established subsidiary of Suntory Food & Beverage Ltd, Beam Suntory, is the largest whisky producer in Japan. It operates two malt distilleries, Yamazaki and Hakushu, Chita grain distillery and produces number of blends. Torys is an entry level blended whisky destined for the local market, it is bottled at 37% abv thus cannot be called a whisky in the EU. The whisky was introduced in April 1946 under the marketing slogan “Good Taste, Good Value!”
Nose: simple, slightly alcoholic, vanilla, maple syrup, caramel, honey, hints of cinnamon and oak.
Palate: follows the nose, vanilla, caramel, toffee, apple peel, touch of hay and hints of cinnamon and pepper.
Finish: pretty short, spirity, with notes of pepper, vanilla, dash of ginger and oak.
