Glengoyne Distillery is located in the village of Dumgoyne, about 12 miles north of Glasgow. Founded in 1833 as Burnfoot Distillery it has been using its current name since 1905. For a long time Glengoyne malt was associated with Cutty Sark and Lang’s blends and to lesser extend with The Famous Grouse. Currently the distillery is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, under whose stewardship the brand sales increased by 150%. Glengoyne has been famous for their sherry wood matured expressions but occasionally small batches are transferred into alternate casks to enhance the character of whisky. Here we have a unique Glengoyne 1996 Vintage finished in ex-Port casks and bottled at 46% abv in 2010.

Nose: fruity with pretty strong port statement, strawberries, cherries, apples, toffee, gingerbread, walnuts, cloves and oak.

Palate: fruity, strawberries, apricots, cherries, candied lemon peel, sweet cereals with honey, toffee, maple syrup, dash of cinnamon and cloves.

Finish: medium long, sweet and spicy, raisins, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger and a touch of mint.
