Soon after launch of Great King Street Artist’s Blend in 2011 Compass Box’ John Glaser ran number of experimental batches to expand the range.
Two experimental blends were later released with the idea of letting the customers decide which one would make as permanent addition to the range. Here we have Batch No. 00-V4 (nicknamed Orange Batch), a blend of 28% of Lowland grain whisky and 72% malt from Speyside, Highlands and Islands with a little addition of peated Islay whisky, all aged predominantly in first fill ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Released in September 2013 with an outrun of 3439 bottles.
Nose: malty and fruity, peaches, apricots, apple pie, oranges, lemon curd, caramel popcorn, dash of cinnamon, hay and bunch of garden herbs.
Palate: subtle sherry notes, creamy vanilla, peaches, oranges, candied lemon peel, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon, raisins, and fading hints of smoke.
Finish: fairly long, peaches, citrus, popcorn, vanilla, oak and subtle spiciness.
