Compass Box Whisky Co. does not really fit in today’s world of marketing slogans. Its founder John Glaser makes great whisky with a maximum degree of transparency, sharing every possible detail regarding his blends’ formulas.
Glasgow Blend was added to the Great King Street range in 2014. Its recipe includes: 34% of Cameronbridge aged in first fill American oak barrels, 35% of Benrinnes aged in ex-sherry butts, 17% of Laphroaig aged in rejuvenated hogsheads, 8% of Clynelish aged in first fill American oak barrels, 2% of Miltonduff aged in first fill American oak barrels and 4% of married malts from Clynelish, Teaninich and Dailuaine distilleries finished in toasted French oak barrels for two years.
Nose: great combination of malt, peat smoke and sherry sweetness, honey, vanilla, apples, milk chocolate, ginger, touch of iodine and sea breeze.
Palate: well balanced, peat smoke, breakfast cereals, apples, plums, grapefruits, cherries, vanilla, salted caramel, hints of tar and burnt rubber.
Finish: fairly long and on dry side, pepper, ginger, cocoa, vanilla, peat smoke and toasted oak.
