In 2017 Teeling Whiskey Co. introduced the Brabazon series, named as a tribute to the Brabazon family, who once presided over the area of the Liberties in Dublin, where the current Teeling Distillery has been built. The new series explores the impact of fortified wine casks on character of Irish whiskey. The initial release was composed from different sizes and styles of ex-sherry casks:
§ 30% of 2008 whiskey fully matured in ex-sherry butts;
§ 30% of 2007 whiskey fully matured in ex-sherry butts;
§ 30% of 2005 whiskey fully matured in ex-sherry butts;
§ 2 x 2.5% of 2002 whiskey finished in 220-liter PX and Oloroso casks;
§ 5% of 2001 whiskey fully matured in ex-sherry hogsheads.
Only 12500 bottles were produced.
Nose: delicate sherry notes, hazelnuts, prunes, raisins, dried figs and apricots, orange peel, toffee, touch of cinnamon and delicate earthy and leafy notes.
Palate: sweet and fruity, plums, raspberries, blackberries, chocolate-coated hazelnuts, candied orange peel and hints of ginger and cloves.
Finish: medium long, mixed spices, milk chocolate, hazelnuts and hints of toasted oak.
