Since the early 2000s Tomatin Distillery has been undergoing transition from the bulk whisky producer to serious player in the single malt category.
The range has been expanded and peated expression was introduced under Cù Bòcan brand. The company released number of vintages and wood finishes and within 10 years sales volume went up almost five-fold, crossing half million bottles mark in 2016. The Cask Strength expression was introduced in 2015, a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The second batch followed next year, bottled with the same generous 57.5% abv.
Nose: sweet and fruity, oranges, peaches, raisins, vanilla, toffee, golden syrup, milk chocolate, breakfast cereals and touch of candied ginger.
Palate: malty, fruity and spicy, oranges, cherries, raisins, vanilla, hints of marzipan, crème brûlée, pepper, ginger, cinnamon and touch of nutmeg.
Finish: fairly long and spicy, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, notes of vanilla and walnuts.
