Allt-a-Bhainne Distillery (the Gaelic name translates to “the Milk Burn”) was built in 1975 by Seagram to supply malt for Chivas blends (those days Chivas Bros. was subsidiary of Seagram).
Since 2001 Chivas Bros. and their distilleries have been part of Pernod Ricard, the second biggest producer of alcoholic beverages in the world. Allt-a-Bhainne produces 4 million liters of spirit per annum but despite such substantial capacity its single malt has never been bottled by the owners. Allt-a-Bhainne 2008 Vintage, part of Douglas Hamilton The Clan Denny Selection, comprises whisky aged in refill hogshead no. DH 10988 for 7 years. Douglas Hamilton is a subsidiary of Douglas Laing & Co., one of the most respected independent bottlers.
