Every year BenRiach’s core range is supplemented with various finishes and single cask bottlings. The details of batch # 13 of the latter were revealed on August 19, 2016.
This time Billy Walker, the company master distiller, selected twelve casks including several interesting wood finishes. The oldest whisky in the batch, 40 years old, came from the cask filled in 1975, the youngest one, 16 years old, from the cask filled in 1999. Here we got triple distilled whisky from May 27, 1998 finished in ex-PX sherry puncheon no. 6401. In June 2016 the puncheon yielded 670 bottles of cask strength whisky (57.3% abv).
Producer’s tasting notes:
Nose: sour plums, rum soaked raisins and delicate cigar box spice.
Taste: sweet spice and crisp oak characters flow over figs and dates; hints of ground coffee beans and mixed peel add a perfect contrast to the rich finish.
