In the spring of 2016 Brown-Forman Corporation acquired BenRiach Distillery Company and their three distilleries for £285m. In the first six months since the acquisition there were no noticeable changes, just business as usual with legendary Billy Walker calling the shots. On August 19 that year BenRiach revealed details of batch # 13 of single cask bottlings. This time Billy Walker selected twelve casks including triple distilled whisky, peated expressions and wood finishes. Here we have BenRiach 20 years old, distilled on December 4, 1995, finished in Madeira hogshead no. 5959 and bottled at natural strength of 53.9% abv. Only 278 bottles were produced.
Producer’s tasting notes:
Nose: ripe yellow pears and cantaloupe melons dusted with vanilla infused icing sugar.
Palate: floods of fruit salad spiced with fresh root ginger; a lasting crisp oak character combines with rich stewed barley in the full-bodied palate.
