We have always been thrilled with BenRiach single cask releases, this time even more since in June 2016 all three distilleries owned by BenRiach Distillery Company (BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh) were acquired by the American giant Brown-Forman Corporation. Roughly two months later Billy Walker, the company master distiller, announced details regarding their latest batch of premium single cask bottlings. For Batch # 13 he selected 12 casks ranging from 16 to 40 years old. Here we have one of the highlights of that range, whisky distilled on August 19, 1991 and finished in ex-Burgundy barrel no. 6898. The barrel yielded only 265 bottles of cask strength whisky (50.6% abv).
Producer’s tasting notes:
Nose: a perfect balance of dark Mediterranean fruits and black pepper with delicate floral oak characters and a hint of clove oil.
Palate: rich orange bitters infused through fresh cranberry juice; crisp rose water and steeped barley bring an elegance and contrast to the powerful fruit characters.
