On August 19, 2016 BenRiach Distillery revealed details of Batch # 13 of their renowned single cask bottlings. According to the press release “the variety sets BenRiach’s singe cask series apart including whiskies in the classic Speyside style, peated expressions and wood finishes such as Tawny Port, Burgundy, PX Sherry, Claret, Madeira and Tokaji”. The ultimate highlight of the range was 40 years old peated whisky distilled on December 18, 1975 and aged in ex-sherry butt no. 7028. After four decades the butt produced 511 bottles at natural strength of 53% abv.
Producer’s tasting note:
Nose: bursting with tropical fruits and ripe banana with the most distant hint of campfire embers.
Taste: plum skins, dark raisins and hints of yellow pear holds a robust peat reek; rich vintage leather and old oaky characters add a classic aged depth.
