BenRiach Distillery was founded in 1897 but after just 3 years of operations remained silent until 1965. From 1978 to 2001 the distillery was run by Chivas Bros, then subsidiary of Seagram. After the latter unloaded its wine and spirits assets Benriach was mothballed and sold along with maturing stock for £5.4 million to Intra Trading in 2004. The last change in ownership took place in 2016, when Brown-Forman Corporation took over the operation but this time BenRiach was one of the leading single malt brands with followers all over the world. The 20 years old expression was launched in 2004 and remains part of the core range. It scored several medals and awards with gold medals at 2006 and 2011 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
