Tamdhu Distillery was founded in 1896 by a consortium of whisky blenders including William Grant & Co, John Walker & Sons, Robertson & Baxter to name a few. Since 2011 the distillery is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers and produces roughly 3 million liters of spirit per annum running at 75% capacity. Tamdhu malt is a component of numerous blended whiskies including Cutty Sark, J&B and Famous Grouse. Here we have an excellent small batch release from Wm Cadenhead & Co, the oldest Scottish Independent Bottler (est. 1842). The whisky distilled in 1991 spent 24 years in refill American oak and was bottled at natural strength of 54.4% abv in 2016.
