Glenglassaugh, founded 1875, is a small distillery located in Eastern Highlands, about 50 miles north-west of Aberdeen. For the most part of the 20th Century the distillery was mothballed (total of 61 years) but since the reopening in 2008 it welcomed new owners three times, the last time in the spring of 2016, when Brown-Forman Corporation acquired it along with GlenDronach and BenRiach Distilleries. Glenglassaugh Octaves Classic was launched in June 2016. The whisky carries no age statement, we were told it spent about 7 years exclusively in octave casks, capacity roughly 60 liters. Smaller casks increase interaction between wood and the spirit and consequently accelerate aging process.
