Springbank, founded in 1828 on the site of an illicit still, is arguably the most unique Scottish distillery. It has been owned by the Mitchell family since 1837, what makes it the longest family owned distillery in Scotland. In the 21st Century the entire production process, from malting to bottling, is completed on site (no other distillery can make such claim). The 25 years old expression returned to the range in 2014 as a limited yearly release. The 2015 bottling comprises whisky aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and finished for several months in ex-port casks. Only 900 bottles were produced.
Nose: fruity and sweet with delicate earthy notes, apples, plums, blueberries, milk chocolate, honey roasted nuts, touch of marzipan and hints of peat.
Palate: well balanced, Christmas cake, raisins, dried figs, prunes, milk chocolate, honey, some licorice, cloves and just a pinch of salt.
Finish: long and soothing, toffee, mulling spice, pepper, prunes and delicate peaty notes in the background.
