West Cork Distillers was founded in 2003 in Union Hall, south-western part of Cork County. Their first whiskey, Kennedy’s Irish Whiskey, was launched as early as 2004. The distillery moved its headquarters to the nearby town of Skibereen in 2013, looking for a greater expansion possibilities. At present, their whiskey, vodka, gin and traditional Irish poitín are available in 35 countries across the globe.
West Cork Irish Single Malt 12yo Rum Cask is a triple distilled Irish malt whiskey – produced exclusively with malted barley – matured in ex-bourbon casks and additionally matured (wood finish) in ex-rum casks.
Nose: Distinct rum influences combined with vanilla sweetness. Citrus notes and a hint of oak.
Palate: Smooth, creamy. Vanilla, rum, spices – nutmeg, pepper, some oak. After a while some sweet cherries, raisins and cane sugar appear. Finally some cacao.
Finish: Medium length, with some heavy, dried fruit and a little bitterness at the end.
