Ben Nevis Distillery sits at the foot of Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis (1344 m) in Western Highlands. The distillery was founded in 1825 by Long John McDonald and operated as part of Long John International until the late 1980s. Despite £2 million reconstruction project completed in 1984 Ben Nevis closed two years later and subsequently was sold to Nikka Distilling Company in 1989. The 10 years old expression was launched in 1996 and remains the most popular whisky from the distillery. Ben Nevis produces about two million liters of spirit per annum, of which at least 30% is sent to Japan for production of Nikka blends, primarily Nikka Black.
