Longmorn Distillery was founded in 1894 by John Duff and is currently owned by Chivas Bros, subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. The distillery produces close to 4.5 million liters of spirit per annum with majority of the output going into Chivas Regal 18 years old and Chivas Royal Salute. In recent years Chivas Bros put little more effort for promoting Longmorn brand, but Glenlivet and Aberlour still remain the company leading malts. Here we have an excellent single cask expression, part of Gordon & MacPhail Reserve range. The whisky aged in first fill sherry butt no. 5063 filled on November 22, 1966 was bottled at natural strength of 44.3% for G&M Dutch importer, Van Wees, in June 2011. Only 282 bottles were produced.
Nose: big and complex, lots of sherry and garden herbs, forest floor, raspberries, cherries, peaches, vanilla, chocolate fudge, black pepper and hints pine resin.
Palate: strong sherry notes, ground coffee, dried figs and apricots, candied orange peel, vanilla, honey, pepper, touch of leather and lingering oakiness.
Finish: fairly long, oaky and herbal, with notes of dark chocolate and orange peel.
