In 2016 Douglas Laing added the fifth expression to its Remarkable Regional Malts Collection. The Epicurean Lowland Blended Malt joined Timorous Beastie from Highlands, Scallywag from Speyside, Big Peat from Islay and Rock Oyster from the Islands. The Epicurean commemorates a charming Glasgow gentleman from the 1930s, ‘life and soul of any party, with dram in his hand seldom dry’. The whisky is a vatting of single malts sourced from the Lowland distilleries, bottled at 46.2% abv without coloring and chill-filtration. Douglas Laing & Co. was World Whiskies Awards’ Brand Innovator of the year 2016.
Nose: fresh, grassy, malted barley, lemons, green bananas, peaches, vanilla, caramel, candied ginger, fresh herbs and hints of apple blossom.
Palate: fruity and grassy, pears, peaches, lemon peel, honeydew melon, white pepper, ginger, delicate oaky and herbal notes.
Finish: medium long, with notes of pepper, lemon grass, vanilla and delicate herbal touch.
