Among officially recognized types of American distilled spirits straight malt whiskey is probably as rare as straight wheat. According to legal definition straight malt whisky has to distilled from mash containing at least 51% of malted barley and aged for at least two years in new charred American oak barrels. Zeppelin Bend is a product of Michigan based New Holland Brewery and Artisan Spirits, best known for brewing craft beers (the company added still in 2005). The whisky was twice distilled from 100% mated barley, a portion of which was heavily roasted, and aged for 3 years in heavily charred American oak barrels, what makes it single malt by European standards. The name refers to the type of knot used to secure airships like zeppelin.
