Benrinnes Distillery was founded in 1826 and the first 100 years of its history was truly disastrous. It experienced floods, fire and owners’ bankruptcies. In 1922 John Dewar & Sons took over the ownership and the distillery has been working without interruptions ever since. Currently Benrinnes is owned by Diageo and produces 3.5 million liters of spirit per annum. Most of production goes into blends, primarily Johnnie Walker, J&B and Crawford’s 3 Star and currently there is no official range. The 1998 Vintage, released in 2015 as part of Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice range comprises whisky aged in first fill and refill sherry hogsheads.
