Allt-a-Bhainne Distillery (the Gaelic name translates to “the Milk Burn”) was built in 1975 by the Canadian conglomerate Seagram to supply malt for Chivas blends. Despite rather substantial output of 4 million liters of spirit per annum Seagram never released any bottlings of Allt-a-Bhainne and Pernod Ricard, which owns the distillery since 2001, follows the same path. The 2013 Gordon & MacPhail release, part of the popular Connoisseurs Choice range, contains whisky distilled in 1996 and aged in refill ex-sherry hogsheads.
Nose: fresh, malty and fruity, pears, green apples, sweet cereals, hints of walnuts, vanilla, touch of hay and oak.
Palate: light, apples, grapefruits, touch of oranges and honeydew melon, lemon pepper, delicate oaky dryness and just a pinch of salt.
Finish: medium long, light and smooth, with delicate fruity and oaky notes.
