St Magdalene Distillery, also known as Linlithgow, was founded in the late 1700s. It was one of five distilleries once operated in the town of Linlithgow and the last one to close. St Magdalene was equipped with two pairs of stills and produced about 1.3 million liters of spirit per annum. The distillery ceased operations in 1983 due to whisky oversupply and most of the buildings were converted into apartments. In the 21st Century St Magdalene remains the most collectible Lowland malt. The 1982 Vintage expression, part of Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old range (RO/15/05), contains whisky aged in remade refill hogsheads. Bottled at 46% abv in 2015.
