Benromach is the smallest Speyside distillery, equipped with a single pair of stills produces 500 000 liters of spirit per annum. Gordon & MacPhail purchased the mothballed distillery from United Distillers in 1993 and within five years period had it fully renovated and refurnished. The 35 years old expression is likely the oldest official bottling of Benromach. It comprises whisky distilled in the early 1980s, before the distillery entered its 15 years long silent period (1983-1998), and matured in first fill ex-sherry casks. The stunning presentation contains elegant decanter-style bottle encased within a wooden presentation box, both decorated with copper details.
Nose: rich with strong sherry statement, bitter orange marmalade, grapefruits, black cherries, dried apricots, cinnamon, caramel, licorice and a whiff of smoke.
Palate: complex, oranges, apples, apricots, raisins, dark chocolate, honey, banana bread, cinnamon and cloves, hints of tobacco and charred oak.
Finish: medium long, bitter oranges, tobacco, cocoa and sherried oak.
