Knockdhu is rather small Highland distillery built in 1894 by DCL. It supplied malt to the company vast blended whisky portfolio, mainly the Haig’s brand. The distillery closed in 1983 and five years later was acquired by Inver House Distillers. It is equipped with one pair of stills and produces close to 2 million liters of spirit per annum. Knockdhu 12 year old was introduced in 1990 but three years later the owners decided to market it under anCnoc brand to avoid confusion with totally unrelated Knockando Distillery. The current sales of anCnoc brand are little shy of 200 000 bottles per annum.
Nose: smooth, malty and slightly flowery (wild flowers), sweet cereals, vanilla, honey, green oak and hints of wet cardboard.
Palate: light and smooth, breakfast cereals, toasted bread, caramel, vanilla, apples, ripe grapes and touch of oak.
Finish: medium long, malty, with notes of caramel, vanilla and touch of spice.
