Lagavulin is one of the three Diageo distilleries located on the Isle of Islay (the others are Caol Ila and silent Port Ellen). It is equipped with two pairs of stills and produces close to 2.5 million liters of spirit per annum. Lagavulin called by many “the Aristocrat from Islay” has been promoted since the late 1980s as a part of Classic Malt range. Currently the brand global sales reach 1.7 million bottles annually, what makes it the third best selling Islay malt behind Laphroaig and Bowmore. The 12 years old expression was introduced in 2002 and annual bottlings have been released ever since. The whisky is aged in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at natural strength.
