The Corriemhor Cigar Reserve Pure Malt (by today’s standards blended malt) is the creation of Richard Paterson, Whyte & Mackay master blender, from the late 1990s. It was Mr. Paterson’s first Cigar Malt designed specifically to complement the finest Cuban cigars. The formula remains the creator’s secret, we can only guess that one of the main components was Dalmore (Mr. Paterson takes full credit for crafting Dalmore Cigar Malt). It is quite possible that other malts from then Whyte & Mackay portfolio, such as Tamnavulin and Tomintoul, were also included. The whisky was bottled without age statement, the company claimed however that no component was aged for less than 8 years and the sherry wood content was high.
Nose: strong sherry notes, raisins, dark chocolate, caramel, good quality tobacco, leather, hints of licorice and maple cured ham and touch of oak.
Palate: sherry again, honey roasted almonds, baked apples, bitter chocolate, raisins, orange marmalade and distant hints of smoke.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sherry, dried fruits, hints of mulling spice and oak.
