Yellowstone bourbon takes its name from the famous National Park, which opened in 1872. The brand name was an idea of Charles Townsend, a salesman at Cold Spring Distillery owned by J.B. Dant, who visited the newly opened park and believed that the Yellowstone name put on the bourbon label would guarantee its success on the West coast. The date of the initial release remains unknown, there is a record however that the brand was on the market in 1886. During the prohibition Yellowstone was one of the medicinal whiskey brands but in the late 20th Century it lost its reputation and occupied the bottom shelves of liquor outlets. In the recent years the owners, Luxco Inc., have been trying to rehabilitate the brand with several premium releases. Yellowstone Select is a sourced whiskey, marriage of 4 and 7 years old Kentucky Straight Bourbons.
