Macallan 18 years old debuted in 1984. It was a limited edition of 1965 Vintage and in the next couple of decades the 18 years old expressions carried vintage destination. That changed in 2004, with the launch of Fine Oak (combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks) and Sherry Oak ranges. The bottle presented here was part of 2013 release and contains whisky distilled in 1995 (and earlier), aged exclusively in Spanish oak sherry casks and bottled for the US market.
Nose: rich, with strong sherry and oaky notes, candied orange peel, prunes, honey roasted nuts, coconut flakes, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and hints of peat.
Palate: rich and creamy, raisins, prunes, dried figs, bananas, milk chocolate, honey, vanilla, touch of espresso, pepper, cinnamon and delicate herbal note.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of bitter chocolate, dried fruit and oak.
