Glenmorangie people love to call The Taghta expression a ‘crowd-sourced’ whisky. In fact ‘taghta’ translates from the Gaelic to ‘the chosen one’ and the whisky was chosen by the company Cask Masters program. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie master distiller and whisky creator, prepared samples of three different finishes of Glenmorangie: Grand Cru Burgundy, Grand Cru Bordeaux and Manzanilla sherry. The members of the public picked up the winner, selected a name, design and photography. And ‘the taghta’ was ex-Manzanilla sherry finish. The whisky was launched in the late 2014 with an outrun of 12000 bottles.

Nose: nice combination of sweet and salty notes, vanilla, honey, raisins, butterscotch, salted almonds, lemon peel and touch of cinnamon.

Palate: sweet and spicy, breakfast cereals, honey, vanilla, raisins, orange peel, cinnamon, ginger, salted nuts, touch of green olives and toasted oak.

Finish: fairly long, malty and nutty, with notes of oak and ginger.
