Knappogue Castle is a brainchild of Mark Andrews III, founder of Great Spirits Company in Houston, Texas and big admirer of Irish whiskey. In the 1960s his father Mark Edwin Andrews bought and renovated the 15th Century Knappogue Castle, in County Clare. He also kept buying barrels of whiskey, which he later bottled and distributed among locals and the family friends. The initial release of Knappogue Castle contained 36 years old pot still whiskey distilled in 1951 at Tullamore Distillery. The brand made big entry into the US market in 1997 and has been growing strong ever since. Knappogue Castle 1994 Distiller’s Selection is a limited edition (1100 bottles) released in December 2009. It comprises triple-distilled whiskey sourced from the Northern Ireland distillery.
