Laphroaig Càirdeas, the whisky of friendship, was introduced during 2008 Fèis Ìle. It was a limited edition of 3600 bottles released for the Friends of Laphroaig.
The annual Càirdeas releases became highlight of the following festivals and since 2012 they have not been The Friends of Laphroaig exclusive anymore. The 2013 Càirdeas spent the first 8 years in ex-bourbon casks, then was transferred into ex-port casks for additional 16 months. It was bottled unchill-filtered at 51.3% abv. Since 2012 Càirdeas abv matches the last two numbers of the year in which it’s produced: 51.3% for 2013 release.
Nose: classic Laphroaig’s qualities enhanced with notes of vanilla, buttered toast, blood oranges, grapefruits and strawberries, hints of smoked fish and meats.
Palate: smoky and peaty with distinctive port sweetness, cinnamon, butterscotch, mixed berries marmalade, vanilla, barbecue sauce and dash of pepper.
Finish: long, smoky and winey, drying towards the end.
