Glen Garioch (founded 1797) is a small Highland Distillery located in Old Meldrum, in Aberdeenshire. Since 1968 it has been owned by Morrison Bowmore Distilleries, now part of Beam Suntory. Until the mid 1990s Glen Garioch produced one of the most peated whisky in the region. The distillery was mothballed between 1995 and 1997 and when it reopened it changed the profile of the spirit, giving up on peat. Around that time Glen Garioch released number of single cask expression under Official Distillery Archive range, bottled at natural strength and presented in wooden boxes. Glen Garioch 1970 Vintage is part of that range. The whisky was distilled on April 30, 1970, aged in a single hogshead no. 8 and bottled at 51.3% abv in 1997.
