Speyburn Distillery was founded in 1897 by John Hopkins, co-owner of Glenlossie Distillery, and his three partners. Between 1916 and 1991 it was part of DCL (and its successor United Distillers). Inver House acquired Speyburn in 1991 and after major expansion completed in the early spring of 2015 made it the biggest distillery in the company portfolio. The 1977 Vintage expression, part of Gordon & MacPhail popular Connoisseurs Choice range, comprises whisky distilled in September 1977, aged for 29 years in refill sherry butts and bottled at 43% abv in December 2006.
