Springbank Distillery has always used a substantial amount of sherry barrels for whisky aging and that type of wood works really well for briny and lightly peated Campbeltown spirit. The 30 years old expression released in 1995 comprises whisky distilled in the early 1960s, when the distillery terminated its floor maltings (malting on site resumed in 1992) and aged solely in sherry wood. The whisky was bottled at standard Springbank strength of 46% abv.
Nose: rich and oily, oranges, passion fruit, fig jam, almonds and hazelnuts,
raisins, hints of furniture polish and pipe tobacco and touch of peat.
Palate: lots of tropical fruit, mango, passion fruit, kiwi, oranges, chocolate-coated hazelnuts, raisins, traces of cinnamon and cloves and touch of peat.
Finish: long, with more tropical fruit, dark chocolate, touch of spice and brine.
