Springbank has always been doing things own way, regardless the market conditions. Even now, when demand for whisky remains all time high and new distilleries are constructed all over the world Springbank operates at roughly 20% of its modest capacity producing 150 000 liters of spirit per annum. With such output almost every release of Springbank falls into “limited edition” category. The 18 years old bottling from September 2015 was intended for Springbank Society members. The whisky distilled in July 1997 spent 18 years in re-charred sherry butt and was bottled at natural strength of 58.9% abv. Only 502 bottles were produced.
Nose: interesting combination of sherry and hay, hints of pepper, candied orange peel, raisins, cocoa powder, some leather, toasted oak and touch of peat.
Palate: sherry is more pronounced now, lots of dried fruit, prunes, dates, cherries, dark chocolate, caramel, traces of leather, hay and charred oak.
Finish: fairly long, with notes of dried fruit, bitter chocolate, caramel and oak.
