Whereas Jack Daniel’s distilling career is pretty well documented most of us don’t remember that Jack was also an owner of White Rabbit Saloon, which opened in 1892. The saloon was a favorite Lynchburg gathering place located in the town square, where he and his friends could spend time together and enjoy a glass of Jack Daniel’s whiskey. Unfortunately prohibition in the state of Tennessee started in 1910, roughly a year before Jack’s death, and saloon had to close. In 2012 Brown-Forman released a limited edition of Jack Daniel’s White Rabbit Saloon to commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the opening the bar. There is no specific information how this release differs from standard Old No. 7, it was bottled at 43% abv instead of 40%. While the Anniversary bottling was a strictly limited edition The Special Edition of White Rabbit Saloon, which followed next year enjoyed wider availability.
Nose: subtle yet complex, honey, milk chocolate, vanilla, sweet cereals, pepper, licorice, cappuccino, toasted oak and hints of tobacco.
Palate: nicely balanced, caramel, licorice, vanilla salt, honey, gingerbread, bananas, pepper, touch of allspice and wood char.
Finish: medium long and pretty spicy, with notes of honey, oak and coffee.
