A small-scale distillery Rhum J.M was founded in 1845 and is located in the town of Macouba at the foot of Mount Pelee volcano at the northern tip of Martinique.
The distillery uses exclusively sugar cane from its own plantation at the Habitation Bellevue estate, close to the distillery itself. Unlike the vast majority of sugar cane plantations, the fields at Habitation Bellevue are not burnt down after harvest as it would be in breach of the Appellation d’Origine Controlee (AOC) principles. Instead, the sugar cane plantation alters with banana plantations.
Rhum J.M 2002 is a rum agricole, which is a spirit made from fresh sugar cane juice rather than molasses. A vintage spirit, distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2013. Its bouquet offers notes of fresh grass, dark chocolate, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) and herbs.
