Springbank Distillery sits in the middle of Campbeltown, the once proclaimed ‘whisky capital of the world’. Those times are long gone and currently Campbeltown is hosting only three distilleries (Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia) with combined annual output less than one million liters of spirit. Springbank and Glengyle are owned by J. & A. Mitchell & Co. and produce the most handmade Scotch whisky, with 100% of the process being carried out on site. Springbank 18 years was launched in 2009 and have been enjoying limited annual releases ever since. The whisky is a combination of ex-sherry (about 80%) and ex-bourbon (20%) casks.
Nose: very complex, vanilla, marzipan, honey, milk chocolate, strawberries, raisins, plums, hazelnuts, hints of pepper and fading whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: rich and fruity, lots of berries and citrus, vanilla, buttered toast, touches of aniseed and licorice, white pepper and just a pinch of salt.
Finish: long, with notes of chocolate, salty caramel, hints of spice and smoke.
