Unquestionably exceptional bottling of Strathisla issued by Gordon & MacPhail, the renowned Scottish Independent Bottler, in the summer of 1981 to commemorate Royal Wedding of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. Gordon & MacPhail has long-standing tradition to release special bottlings in order to celebrate such events. This time the company selected whisky distilled in 1948 and 1961, respectively the years the groom and bride were born, and married them together. In July 1981 the British believed in fairy tale marriage, and despite its disastrous end, the bottling still holds high collectable value.
Nose: rich and classy, lots of dried and fresh fruit, hints of lavender, touches of pepper and ginger, subtle cigar smoke and a note of toasted oak.
Palate: very smooth, fruity, oranges, cantaloupe, baked apples, prunes, dark chocolate, cinnamon, ginger, sherried oak and fading hints of smoke.
Finish: medium long, fruity and spicy, with notes of oak, tobacco and a whiff of smoke.
