Elijah Craig Bourbon is named after the Baptist minister, named by many ‘the creator of bourbon’. Elijah left Virginia to avoid prosecution from officials of the Church of England and settled in Lebanon (later Georgetown), Kentucky, where he preached, owned a paper mill and distilled whiskey. Giving Elijah Craig full credit for bourbon creation is certainly a stretch since he had never operated outside of Georgetown and that town was never part of Bourbon County. Elijah Craig bourbon is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery from mash containing 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. The barrel proof edition was introduced in the fall of 2013 and is being released four times a year ever since. Batch # 7 released in February 2015 was bottled at 64% abv, fairly low for the range.
