Macallan 18 years old debuted in 1984. It was a limited edition of 1965 Vintage and in the next couple of decades the 18 years old expressions carried vintage destination. That changed in 2004, with the launch of Fine Oak (combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks) and Sherry Oak ranges. The bottle presented here was part of 2014 release and contains whisky distilled in 1996 (and earlier), aged exclusively in Spanish oak sherry casks and bottled at 43% abv.
Nose: rich, with lots of toffee and honey, Christmas fruitcake, sultanas, roasted chestnuts, hints of tobacco and dried porcinis and touch of aniseed and pepper.
Palate: nicely balanced, chocolate coated raisins, butterscotch, honey, vanilla custard, dried figs and apricots, dash of ginger and delicate oaky and nutty notes.
Finish: pretty long, toffee, raisins, chocolate fudge and hints of spice.
